New Comprehensive State Privacy Laws – How To Prepare

In the absence of an overarching federal privacy law in the United States, a handful of states, including California, Colorado, Virginia, Utah and Connecticut,  have begun to enact consumer data privacy laws of their own.

These comprehensive new laws give consumers in those states new data rights with respect to the collection and processing of their personal data, and impose new obligations on businesses. Several other states are looking to enact similar privacy laws in the near future as the privacy patchwork continues to expand.
